After the BIU Competition we stayed in Ping Tang for a few days. Highlights: Chinese massages, air conditioning, street noodles that gave us the shits. So we left to Guiyang at 1 in the morning on the 30th. Our flight took off and we landed in Beijing but unfortunately our flight was cancelled and Steve's bag was broken! After arguing with the Chinese bag people for about half a day we managed to get them to pay us $120 CAD from $16 CAD. Because the flight was delayed two days we were put up in the garden hotel in Beijing. We stayed in the hotel for two days watching movies and recovering from our illnesses. Finally we left Beijing, but not before they wanted to charge us $1000 USD for each bike to take to Melbourne, AUS. Our plan was to buy an extra ticket to have more luggage available. After buying the ticket they realized we had tickets...which we told them in the beginning...IMPOSSILBE! Is the response we got. So with that plan out of the way we decided to put on all our clothes on directly in front of check-in. So they decided that we could weigh the bags without the clothes in it and the also gave us some more deals so it was about $500 for each bike. We finally get to Canberra, Take a bus to our hostel, and register and talk to the Canadian Mountain Bike Team to get our jerseys. Today we had the 26" Elite Semi-finals. The top 8 make it to the finals. The sections had big moves and were fun! The Canadian Results: 16th Jeff Anderson 18th John Webster 26th Steve Dickin Here is a link to the full Results: link Feel Free to forward this email to anyone who would be interested in reading it. Wish us luck for the next World Cup in Rotorua, New Zealand! |
